Fine Art At AGW - All for One and One for All!
Bernstein: Right. In the early '60s I had what you might call a normal fine arts career, but got tired of the--what would you call it--the elitism of the so-called fine arts. I wanted to communicate more strongly with a larger piece of society. So, after a long discussion with my wife, I decided the illustration field was the place to go. So I began doing straight illustration: oil painting, watercolors, and the like for the NFL, Westway magazine, and stuff like that. And I liked it; the money was good, but what was even better were the phone calls I received from people I knew and people I didn't know--people who saw thestuff after it was printed. I thought, "gee this is wonderful, because it gives me real feedback.".....
Learning how to document your own artwork can be time consuming and expensive. Having good quality slides of your work, however, is an absolutely essential first step in seeing yourself as a professional artist. Nine times out of ten you will not have the opportunity to show your original work. Remember that the purpose of sending slides is to generate interest in seeing the actual work. Your slides must adequately reflect the color, detail, texture, and size. Hiring a professional fine arts photographer is the best way to accomplish this. Get referrals from other artists or galleries. Always ask to see examples of the photographer's work before you hire someone. It's also a good idea to discuss their policies regarding copyright, pricing and dissatisfaction before the work begins.

The Thousand Oaks Art Association is an organization that supports member professional artists, providing them with opportunities for exhibition, peer association activities and artistic growth. Each member artist is expected to participate in supporting the activities and services the group undertakes. A prospective member applies to join the association by submitting an application to present his/her work on a designated viewing date.
